Getting to the Arlberg  – Fly/Train/drive?

This last year may have made us rethink the way we travel and also look at eco friendly means, we consider the options:

Train:

For those who’d prefer more relaxed, comfortable and eco travelling,  you could choose to come by train. St Anton, is superbly connected for all of Europe. From London the fastest and most scenic route is via Paris, Zurich and the Arlberg Pass. High speed trains mean you can do this trip in one day or If you have the time – consider an overnight stay in Paris or Zurich. Sit back in your seat, watch the world go by and be effortlessly whisked to St Anton. Check out the informative site Seat 61 for all details. Please note any additional regulations if your are transiting Switzerland or France.

Fly:

We are already seeing many flights advertised for next winter. If you are flying we recommend booking early to secure flexible tickets and the best deals. Skyscanner is an excellent comparison site and it has a handy map app to check the most up to date info on restrictions, tests etc required

Flying into Innsbruck is the easiest and quickest route, with an easy 1 hour train transfer into the resort.

Self Drive:

Many travellers to the Arlberg drive for extra flexibility.  Why not bring a campervan and book into one of the great Pettneu campsites, Arlberg Life or Camping Arlberg with private bathroom cabins and heating.  For day trippers – closest parking is at the old Rendl gondola station, about 8 minutes walk from the Galzig gondola.

Insurance

We recommend wherever possible to book flexible options – for accomodation and travel so you do not have to rely on insurance. Piste to Powder provides flexible booking, with no deposit to pay until end of the year.

For Off Piste we recommend the Austrian Alpine Club insurance which provides rescue cover up to 6,000 meters in Europe. Use in conjunction with your EHIC card and/or travel insurance. Battleface offers policies that provide cover in the event of non-essential travel Government advisory. Please check the wording on your policy as many only offer cover for skiing Off Piste with a guide.

Pieps Hard Case – free replacement

If you have a Pieps transceiver – model DSP PRO, DSP PRO ICE or DSP Sport then it would be worth looking at the free replacement hard cases offered by Pieps. They are offering this as a safety enhancement. All The details including how to apply are found here
