We take you for an incredible day of Off Piste skiing, far away from the crowded pistes in the search of perfect powder lines and discover hidden tree runs. Perfect for mixed groups of skiers and snowboarders or groups of friends who want to ski together. Private guiding is also perfect for those wanting a relaxed day out, to familiarise themselves with the resort and learn the best spots. We can also taylor events and ski guiding for corporate groups.

The experience

The day starts at your convenience – around 08.45 in cafe Anton opposite the Galzig gondola where the guide will meet you to discuss the day ahead. If you are staying in Zürs, Lech, Stuben or St Christoph our guide will arrange to meet you at a mutually convenient starting point.

Once on the mountain your guide will give a brief safety talk and you will be shown how to use your Avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. The fun then begins!

Your guide will taylor the day with you according to the prevailing conditions and your needs. We normally start with a quick warm up on the piste and then we head Off Piste into the backcountry. The choice of routes will depend on the conditions on the day but all areas offer unique backcountry experiences – and we will discover the best powder runs, hidden tree runs, spectacular summits, exhilarating couloir descents. The difficulty level is geared to your group to ensure everyone enjoys the day.

Ski touring

Explore the backcountry and real wilderness of the Arlberg. Go deep into the backcountry, using a mix of lifts and skinning to reach stunning summits,such as and descend endless untracked powder runs up to 1600 vertical metres descent with only 500 meters or less of ski touring. Day tour or stay in remote mountain huts – let us tailor an experience for you.

We have many options for hut to hut touring including Silvretta, Ötztal, Malfon, Norway and Jungfrau. Just get in touch and we can tailor a trip for you. Our guides know not only the classic trips in the Alps, but also the special ones!

Heliskiing St. Anton Arlberg Adventure

Fancy a real powder adventure? Climb aboard a helicopter in Zürs which will whisk you to the heady heights, the summit of Mehlsack (2,652m) or Schneetäli ( 2,450m) There is time enough to take a few enviable Instagram shots, before exiting the Helicopter in true Top Gun style to perch on top of the world, taking in the breathtaking alpine peaks.

The final reward is an exhilarating descent (1 hour) to the pretty village of Zug. We enjoy lunch at one of the many panoramic mountain restaurants in zurs or lech and if we still have time and energy perhaps one more Off piste run before returning to the resort.

Lech Zürs is unique in Austria as the only place to offer Heliskiing. This is a challenging run for L2-3 Off Piste skiers but when conditions are just right, this is a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Please note: helicopter can only be confirmed on the day but a slot can be reserved, because of this we will always aim to book the best day according to the forecast . The guide will decide if conditions are suitable for heli skiing on the day.

St. Anton, Lech Zürs & the terrain

The Arlberg is the largest interconnected ski area in Austria with over 305km of ski trails and a mecca for backcountry or freeride ski enthusiasts. It lies in one of the most consistent snowfall areas in Europe – with an impressive average snowfall of a staggering 11m in Warth and 7m in St Anton. The snow quality is excellent, lasting longer than comparable height resorts in Austria. Just one lift pass covers all 7 resorts: St Anton, St Christoph Stuben, Lech, Zuers, Zug and Warth-Schroecken. With the introduction of the Trittkopf & Flexenbahn gondolas in 2016/17, the whole area is now interconnected with high speed modern lifts offering protection from the elements …. READ MORE HERE.

Awesome experience I figured that if I was going to travel all the way from California to St Anton to ski, I wanted to get the most out of the experience. After spending my first day on the piste with long lines, crowded slopes and spending far too much time looking at the map, I was anxious to get off-piste and away from the crowds. I decided to join an open group level 2 with Piste to Powder and was rewarded with incredible scenery, endless fresh tracks on open bowls and a great guide (Bernie) who knew the mountain well and took us to the best spots that I certainly would never have found or ventured to on my own. I'll admit that a couple of the drop ins and traverses made me go weak at the knees at first glance, but Bernie instilled confidence and was very patient. I enjoyed the small group experience and comradery of like minded skiiers. We were all exhausted at the end of the day but were on a high from the experience. BEST decision was to be Guided for a week I signed up for the Level 3 Open Group for the Monday. Snow still wasn't deep but the guide found us fun off-piste skiing with some fresh powder. It was so much fun and we went to places I could never find on my own. So I signed up for the whole week and it was the best decision I could have made! Wonderful guides I booked an off piste day with my brother. Our guide Florian was simply amazing. He was so patient and dealt with two people with very different skiing styles brilliantly. The communication prior to the day was excellent and the payment system simple and efficient. I really cannot recommend Piste to Powder enough. Also highlights the importance of equipment and guiding for off piste. We came across an avalanche and two guides from piste to powder immediately organised everyone into efficient and safe search parties. Two amazing off piste days! Myself and a friend spent two days in the Open Level 1 off piste group. We weren't quite sure what to expect as we hadn't done any off piste skiing before. Our guide was keen to show us the basics and took us down increasing routes of difficulty throughout the day which were all very fun!

We always felt safe despite being off piste and that our guide was looking out for us, and it really helped us develop our technique. We had two epic days of finding lovely snow away from the pistes despite it not having snowed recently.

An amazing day: fun, exciting, and superb teaching We booked a days guided off piste.

We had a marvellous time: as well guided off piste exploring we had some brilliant teaching, and learnt more from him than from any instructor in a long time.

There was a mix-up at the start (one of our group was optimistic on his level, then we got paired with some other guests of a wholly different level). But as they say, the mark of great service is not when things go as expected, but how things go if there is a glitch, and Piste to Powder did superbly.

Jacob came in specially and gave us an *amazing* day.

Wer spent most of the day on Rendl going on piste (for tips on technique) and off piste (for fun)

All three of said afterwards we learnt more from him than we had any other instructor in years - and we did it while have a brilliant, exciting time.

A Necessity With the vastness of St. Anton and the dangers/uncertainty of going off piste in the Alberg we thought it was a no-brainer to hire a guide, and Piste to Powder was the most highly rated. Following our experience I would insist that anyone I knew who was going to St. Anton sign up with Piste to Power, and specifically with Moritz.

Moritz designed each days adventure based on what he felt would be most fun for us. He did not have a set plan that he uses for all his guests but immediately picked up on the fact that we love adventure, hiking, and fresh tracks. For three days Moritz took us all over off-piste, never to the same place twice, and wowed us with the most beautiful scenery, hiking, and skiing. It hadn't snowed in over a week, but it had been warm and rainy - the on piste skiing was poor - and Moritz was still able to find us untouched, knee deep powder for every single run. - 2020-03-01

Great week with Piste to Powder We had an amazing week - and managed fresh tracks every day! Piste to Powder has looked after us two seasons now (a week this February, and a week last year too). Both my teenage children really enjoyed the experience, so we had both family and friends out. High altitudes, levels and attitude Peter took us for a full week of new experiences and challenged us in excellent conditions around StAnton. In a week that started with heavy snowfall and ended with a blue skye you found fresh opportunities for each and every day. You pushed me a bit further, without sacrificing security at any moment.
